The Queen of the Tearling: Erika Johansen
Many of you have probably heard of or seen this book around in bookstores because of how popular it has become but if you haven’t read this book then DO because it is amazing! It’s about this girl, Kelsea Raleigh who has been living in a cottage in the forest since she was an baby. On her 19th birthday, soldiers of the Queen’s Guard come for her to take her back to the palace where she is expected to take her place as Queen. This book is about the journey that Kelsea and the soldiers take to get back to the Tearling and how Kelsea must find a way to become an amazing and respected ruler in a land that has a great enemy. I love this book because it has such a strong female lead and Johansen is amazing in the way she is able to incorporate so many different topics and aspects into one book, she brings us a bit of mystery, fantasy, politics, honor and respect. From the moment I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. It is so interesting and so well written that when the sequel came out, I read that in one night as well!! Haha.
If you do see this book during your next trip to the library or bookstore, I would highly recommend that you pick it up and give it a try. I can’t say enough positive things about this book- it honestly is a favourite for me right now.
